State-owned Skijaliste Srbije plans to build a six-seat gondola lift connecting Mali Karaman and ski centre Kopaonik, in the south of the country, the local authorities said on Friday.
The new gondola lift will replace an existing four-seat ski lift, as it will take four minutes to cover the 1,300-metre distance, according to project documents published on the website of the local authorities.
Construction of two new four-seat ski lifts on Kopaonik will be finished before the beginning of commencement of new ski season.
In cooperation with the world leader in production of cable railways “Doppelmayer” and local partners FOD – Bor, which used to produce cable railways, and Belgrade-based “Asing”, “Genex“ started construction of new ski lifts Pančićev vrh and Mali Karaman. When the first four-seat ski lift from Hotel “Grand“ to Pančićev vrh is finished, it will transport 2,400 instead of 400 skiers per hour for less than five minutes instead of 18-25 min. Such ski lift exists only in Kranmontana. Construction of the second four-seat ski lift with the belt for acceleration to Mali Karaman, which used to be black spot on Kopaonik, because it took half an hour to "board" on the ski lift, will result in transportation of 1,800, or maybe even 2,400 skiers per hour instead of former 600. Construction of these two ski lifts will raise capacities to 24,000 skiers per hour.
According to the first estimates, “Genex“ will have to pay €5m for the works, but, due to additional works on the terrain drainage, the investment will probably reach amount of €5.5–6m
